Anthem’s Hip-Hot Roots at Duke

by Andrew Hibbard on September 24, 2009

Yesterday’s explosion of Anthem’s Blue Devil-themed hip-hop track “Dear Duke” sparked some interest as to who Atteneh Addisu. Turns out, some of his footing in rap came from his “dear” alma mater. In light of the 2007 Don Imus scandal, WRAL reported on Duke’s hip-hop class with Robi Roberts. Here’s what Addisu had to say:

“Don Imus really took attention and put it on hip-hop,” said Duke student Anteneh Addisu. “What everyone’s fired up about is the popular presentation of hip-hop. It’s not actually. Hip-hop is a very large animal. All you know are the claws.”

Check back here for more information about Addisu’s supposed homecoming appearance this weekend.

Unfortunately, he will not be playing in the tailgate lot despite what rumors may have said.
